    I realize that your video is 5years old but, stumbling across this video was fortunate indeed. I purchased Simplify 3D because it was professional in appearance and fast. When Orca came out with 'Tree' support I felt kinda pissed that Simplify 3D (a software that is NOT free) did not offer tree supports as an option. BUT, I've been wrestling with fine tuning tree supports for some time now and can honestly say I'm not really all that impressed. And trying to apply tree supports manually is really entertaining. This "Trick" you just shared in your video is just what I was looking for to solve my quandary betwix Simplify and Orca slicers. I just now sliced up a rather complicated project using the generic 'Generate Supports' button in Simplify 3D and got an overall print time of just over 15hr's...spent about 40 minutes manually adding standard supports using this 'trick' and re-sliced the very same project down to 8hr's 31minutes! Thank you jim2386 : - ) OH, and by the way...loaded the same project into Orca using tree supports and came up with a print time of 13hrs and 11minutes...so, Yay! Now, if we can only get Simplify 3D to include the power to add supports on top of other supports instead of being limited to only the project or the build plate.....

    It’s poor practice to have motors (or other inductive devices) and microcontrollers being powered by the same DC power source. Even when it can deliver the requirements. The power spiked in the DC line caused by induction can create voltage spikes that will kill microcontrollers. Or the noise of induction can be enough to disrupt high frequency low voltage processors. so if you do, you need to really filter and have fly back diodes in place and very good regulators. This often is harder to test so a separation of power supplies is there for a better choice/

    FWIW, you don't actually have to worry about shorting the nozzle out. The nozzle is connected to an input pin on the microcontroller that is designed to be connected to ground or a full 5v, without needing any resistors. It won't hurt anything unless you connect it to +24V, for example. But there are no exposed parts at +24V on the printer. The leveling washers on the bed are held at +5V (or +3.3V if you have upgraded your control board to an Archim 2). In short, you don't have to worry about bridging the nozzle via a conductive tool to the chassis or anything like that.

    Why can't you insert the male-male (in the female stacking header) - as you have around 6:20, THEN put your female stacking header (upside-down) onto the male-male pins on the board. This ensures that the female stacking header is aligned exactly as needed for attaching the subsequent stacking headers when you solder the female stacking header to the board.

    Hi Jim. For some reason during playback, servos sometimes vibrate, kind of jumping from desired recorded position to default servo values… During the recording mode everything runs smoothly and servos reflecting exact analog signals… Any known issue that can cause this? And how to fix? Thank you!!

    • @jim2386
      @jim2386 2 года назад

      went and looked at the code since it's been forever. If you're recording smoothly your code is fine in the setup section where it runs once (record section) and your problem is somewhere in the loop(){ section since that's where things play. My typical plan of attack is to use the Serial.println(); command to help debug. For example: Go down to the section where it says: LRintram = fram.read8(bLR); UDintram = fram.read8(bUD); Blinkintram = fram.read8(bBLINK); The software is reading the value from FRAM back into memory. So I would do Serial.println(LRintram); after that line and run the code. Do the numbers being displayed on screen look smooth or do they jump around when the eye jumps? If things look smooth, try doing the same for UDintram etc. If all those those look smooth, you know the data in FRAM is recorded fine and read fine. Move down the code: LRservovalue = map(LRintram,0,255,servoLRmin, servoLRmax); UDservovalue = map(UDintram,0,255,servoUDmin, servoUDmax); Blinkservovalue = map(Blinkintram, 0, 255, servoBlinkmin, servoBlinkmax); This section is where it's interpolating the value from 0 - 255 back to a servo value. Do a Serial.println(LRservovalue); and run the code again. Is the variable data smooth? If so, check the next varible. Since that data is sent directly to the servos, I'd expect one of those variables to be jumping. Once you figure out which value is jumping, you can trace the problem back. One other thing to check, back up in the: LRintram = fram.read8(bLR); UDintram = fram.read8(bUD); Blinkintram = fram.read8(bBLINK); section, you can also Serial.println(bLR); You can display bLR, bUD, and bBlink. These are memory address locations. You'll want to make sure each variable counts upwards and doesnt' skip any values. See which variable bounces around and then work backwards to find out why it's bouncing. One thought that comes to mind is if, if the fram address variable is skipping a value when recording (bLR,bUD, bBlink) when there's are memory locations that are never getting recorded with new data so when you read it back, it plays back locations that haven't been recorded. Sorry for the ramble but this is how you debug. Find out which variable is bouncing and work backwards. If the data being read immediately is bouncing we know we'll hae to go back and check how it's getting recorded. Baby steps.

    • @dgililov
      @dgililov 2 года назад

      @@jim2386 thank you the detailed answer! I will need to spend some time on debugging… i did modify your code 1. to use a mirrored eye (in your project 2 eyes are the same layout..- in my project i need both eye lids levers to be oriented towards the nose of the head, so had to print and program a mirrored version 2. Ive added a jaw to both, recording and runtime programs.. so there is also bJaw variable which allocates to and reads from memory right after bBlink So the eye lid joystick is used to record movements of the eye lids and then later jaw movements using the same soundtrack… Its pretty difficult and going to add more complexity as I add more eye lids and jaws that will play in the same scene. So another question is: how to better manage recording when need to record layers of movements for the same soundtrack using one joystick. In my example i am trying to make 2 heads having a conversation… Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    • @jim2386
      @jim2386 2 года назад

      Yes. You set the address pins on the board to the next address register. Then in your code setup section where you initiate your boards, you define the next board with the associated address

    • @jim2386
      @jim2386 2 года назад

      In the beginning it initiates the board with the line: Adafruit_PWMServoDriver pwm = Adafruit_PWMServoDriver(); the area in the parenthesis is where you put the address of the board. By default leaving it empty goes to the standard board address if you don't increment the address of the board. I believe you'd just have to add the next line: Adafruit_PWMServoDriver pwm2 = Adafruit_PWMServoDriver(0x41); where 0x41 is the address you chose for the next board by soldering pins. I believe you'll also need to add to these lines: pwm.begin(); pwm2.begin(); pwm.setPWMFreq(60); // Analog servos run at ~60 Hz updates pwm2.setPWMFreq(60); To call that servo on an additional board you just would write: pwm2.setPWM(servonumber, 0, servoposition); Hope this helps.
